Pimples on chin after waxing?

I waxed my chin with a home waxing kit about a week ago. A few days later I got spots on the area, not little ones, quite BIG ones! Im sure this must be to do with the way I waxed, it was my first time after all. They were facial wax strips and I followed the instructions clearly (pulling the right direction ect) but I did notc that some the hairs just 'broke off' and looked shorter rather than being removed from the hair follicle, so I went over those areas more than once. Is that was caused the spots? How can I prevent this is the future? I would rather get my technique good and do it at home than have it done professionally (expenses!).
