The red brick house could be the kids grandparents house or it could be a workshop where there mother is sending them to do child labor. The Mom could tell her children to take the tram back home and from their grandmothers (or sweatshop). The mother could go home and make dinner for the kids when they got home or she could take the beer and sausages to a friends house where she partied the night away and the kids returned to an empty home hungry and forgotten.
