How do you create a yahoo e-mail group list without less than and more than symbols in the name fields?

I attempted to create a group list of e-mail addresses, but the yahoo application adds "less than" and "more than" symbols before and after the e-mail address, and then it (yahoo) provides an error message stating that such symbols are not permitted in the e-mail adddresses. Yahoo does not provide a means for eliminating the symbols; consequently, you get caught up in a circullar logic loop.
