How to act on a first date!?

I met this guy a few weeks ago through friends and he has asked me out for coffee in a few days. My question is how do I know whether this is a date or as friends and are there signs (body language) or anything i should be looking out for. In addition how should I subtly let him know I am interested in him or shall I let him do all the work
